Being a Trustee
As a Trustee you are a member of the Management Committee, responsible for the day-to-day management of the Bisley WI Village Hall charity in accordance with the Deed of Trust. Committee members must manage the charity with all reasonable due care and attention, in the same way that they would manage their own affairs.
As a Committee Member you will be expected to attend Committee meetings so as to have a full knowledge of how the Committee is run, the financial situation, what decisions are being made and why. More importantly, this affords you the opportunity to express your thoughts and ideas on how we can continue to manage this important village asset successfully. Although you may have been nominated by a village organisation to become a Committee member, you must now act in the best interests of the Bisley WI Village Hall charity. You are, of course, entitled to put your organisation’s views, but if there is a clash you must make decisions in the best interests of the Charity.
At your first Committee meeting you must sign a Trustee Eligibility Declaration to say that you have read the Trust Deed, that you fully understand and accept your responsibilities, and that you are not disqualified from acting as a trustee. A copy of this Declaration will be sent to the Charity Commission.
